Algoma Hardwoods, Inc. Announces Promotions
Algoma Hardwoods, Inc. is pleased to announce several internal promotions. Mr. Brian Buckles, a twenty-six year veteran of the Company, has been promoted to the position of President. Brian had previously been Vice-President of Manufacturing. Mr. Henk Wolst, an eight year veteran of the Company, has been promoted to the position of Executive Vice President and will be responsible for all Marketing and Sales Activities of the Company, along with oversight for Algoma Express. Mr. Matt Taylor, who joined the Company last year and most recently served as Director of Marketing, has been promoted to the newly-created position of General Manager, Algoma Express. Mr. Rob Boudry, a twenty year veteran of the industry, the last three of which were at Algoma, has been promoted to the position of Director of Marketing. Rob will retain his close involvement with specialty products and veneers, an area of his past focus with the Company. Algoma Express East, located in Marlton, NJ, and serving the East Coast from Delaware north, will now have Mr. Jeff Schofield as its General Manager. Jeff joined the Company in 1995, having held various positions prior to this most recent appointment.

PPG Names Krystyniak Manager, Strategic Alliances
PPG Industries has appointed Robert Krystyniak as manager, strategic alliances, for the company’s Construction Market Team. In his new post, Krystyniak will identify and develop collaborative opportunities in the construction market.
Krystyniak, a sales and marketing veteran of more than 25 years, joins PPG from Calgon Carbon Corporation, where he served as executive director of sales and marketing. He is a graduate of Yale University, where he earned a degree in economics. He also obtained his Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Houston.

Genie Ready To Take Customer Calls

Genie® Company, part of Dallas-based Overhead Door Corporation’s Access Systems Division, announced the opening of a new customer call center located at its company headquarters in Lewisville, TX. The new 5,000-square-foot call center features the latest technology and highly trained personnel. The call center’s 60 customer service representatives will take calls for all operator products made from 1995 to the present. Each customer service representative is highly trained, having undergone a five-week training course.
The call center features state-of-the-art equipment. All phone calls are recorded and managed by the Cisco Call Manager and Phone System. The system allows for real-time monitoring of all representatives.

Lupus Capital PLC Announces the Acquisition of the Laird Security Systems Division
On April 27th, Lupus Capital, Plc finalized the acquisition of the Laird Security Systems Division, which includes the U.S. based Amesbury Group. They aim to improve performance and thermal efficiency and enhance protection and security for homes and building within the U.S. residential building and home improvement markets, window and door hardware, vinyl products and window and door seals.
Amesbury complements Lupus Capital’s existing Schlegel Building Products US activities and additionally offers the potential for selling Amesbury products through Schlegel’s extensive international distribution network.
Schlegel’s core manufacturing competencies are continuously molded urethane foam, narrow fabric textiles, and extruded plastics. Schlegel also manufactures related products such as cleaning brushes and static control devices for copiers and printers, specialty automotive products.
The Schlegel US operations will be managed under the Amesbury Group’s Sealing Solutions Division under the overall leadership of President Rich Koopmann.

Home Depot Inc. efforts to sell its supply unit, HD Supply, are facing headwinds due to a softer U.S. housing market and other complications, the New York Post reported on its website. Three private-equity bidding groups are still in contention for the business, which sells building materials, waste water and utility products to municipalities and contractors, but a fourth dropped out, the paper said, citing unnamed sources. Portuguese wooden door manufacturer Vicaima has integrated RFID technology into its Vale de Cambra manufacturing facility. The company's goal is to reduce costs and improve production efficiencies. The RFID tags are affixed to the wooden doors and frames so the products can be tracked as they move through the manufacturing process, reported RFID Journal. Full Story
