Kamco Supply Hires New Regional Sales Manager

Kamco Supply of New England announces the hiring of Steven Adelman to the position of Regional Sales Manager. Mr. Adelman has spent the last 20 years with the USG Corp. dealing with contractors, distributors and architects within the Central NY area. He will be responsible for Kamco’s five New York branches located in Albany, Buffalo, Glens Falls, Rochester and the Syracuse location, which will open mid to late summer of 2007.

New Impact-Resistant StormBlocker™ Acrylic Block Windows by Hy-Lite® Receive Miami-Dade County Approval

Adding acrylic block windows to hurricane-prone area homes just got easier. The new Hy-Lite® StormBlocker™ acrylic block windows have received approvals from Miami-Dade County testing (#07-0409.02) and the Florida Building Code (#FL8897). The windows have been independently tested in accordance with Miami-Dade County testing requirements to help resist storm-force winds and rain.

Available in six window sizes, the fixed Hy-Lite StormBlocker windows feature a polycarbonate reinforced core and high-strength aluminum frame, allowing the acrylic block windows to help resist storm-force winds and rain. The acrylic block windows have been independently tested and meet the testing requirements of Miami-Dade County for Florida’s impact, water infiltration and extreme internal/external air pressure tests.

The StormBlocker window achieved a 90 DP rating, equivalent to a 230-mph wind speed when tested on a 50-inch by 90-inch acrylic block window. The window units are highly energy efficient (U value of .37) and are available in four block types from Hy-Lite, including clear wave, frosted wave, Solar Block and cross rib. Both six- and eight-inch square blocks can be ordered for the windows.

Honeywell Develops Fire Alarm Power Supplies for Continuous Duty Applications

Honeywell Power Products has developed three series of power supplies to support fire system installations requiring constant duty power. The HP-ULM series, HP-ACM series, and HP-ULPD series provide continuous power for fire alarm accessory operation including fire door locks, fan shutdown, elevator recall, magnetic door holders and more. Installers typically use these three series in access control applications, and now they are qualified to fulfill UL (Underwriters Laboratories) requirements for fire alarm power supplies as well.

These power supplies deliver 2.5, 4 or 6 amps (depending on model) of continuous power to a large majority of today’s fire alarm system accessories. Each unit features electronically regulated & field selectable 12VDC or 24VDC output that is fully filtered and an automatic switchover to standby battery should AC power fail.

Intertek Launches Personnel Certification Program for Door Raceway Installers

Intertek has launched the 'Perfect Raceway' program. Through the program, raceway installers will be trained and certified to modify fire rated doors for the installation of electrified hardware without altering the fire resistance ratings.

Today, installers are tasked with retrofitting existing doors with enhanced features such as access controls and electrified hardware. In many cases, field modifications to factory-original doors or frames may void the fire rating. The 'Perfect Raceway' program provides the industry with the assurance that these raceway modifications allow the doors to remain compliant.

Beginning in June 2007 installers can register for certification classes provided by Product Certification Consultants, LLC, an independent training company hired by Intertek. To demonstrate compliance after modifications, installers will be certified based on their use of the Dor-Cor drilling tool, a patented tool distributed by Marray. The tool allows the installer to drill a raceway through a wood door without voiding the fire rating. In addition to proper use of the drilling tool, installers will be trained on applicable code requirements, how to properly label the door in accordance with the program, and how to use Intertek's dedicated website under program requirements.
